Charles A. Winterstein

Charles A. Winterstein currently serves as the Acting President of Concordia University, Ann Arbor, Mich., a position he assumed in January 2010. Prior to this role, he served as Concordia's Executive Vice-President for over seven years. A fourth generation Lutheran educator, Winterstein brings over three decades of Lutheran educational experience (all levels: pre-school through university).
Winterstein graduated from Chicago's Luther High South in 1967. He went on to receive his bachelor's degree in education from Concordia Teachers College–River Forest in 1971. In 1988, he returned to River Forest to complete his master's degree in education and administration. He became a Certified Development Executive as a 2004 graduate of the Concordia Center for Financial Leadership and Development Marketing Associates.
Winterstein has presented at numerous regional, state and national conferences. He served as a Genesis Consultant for starting Lutheran schools, and mentors principals on behalf of the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod (LCMS). He has also served on various boards at local, regional and national levels, including chair of the Board for Communication Services of the LCMS. His present service includes board vice president of Lutheran Homes of Michigan.
Winterstein received recognition as the 1994 National Distinguished Lutheran Principal and from the U.S. Department of Education as a National Distinguished Principal in 1995. He has served as teacher, coach, youth worker, director of Christian education, principal, superintendent and the director of development and marketing for the Lutheran Education Association.
Winterstein lives in Brighton, Mich., with his wife, Alecia, and youngest son, Thomas. They attend Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church.
