ANN ARBOR, Mich., November 20, 2009 – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) recognized Concordia University Ann Arbor (CUAA) and its athletic department as a Champion of Character institution for 2008-09, CUAA's sixth straight year. The official selection notice was sent on November 5, 2009, by the Vice President for Champions of Character, Rob Haworth.
The Champions of Character initiative was started by the NAIA with the belief that “character is handed down from one generation to the next.” The program focused on the promotion of five core values: integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership. Institutions are measured in five areas: character training, conduct in competition, academic focus, character recognition, and character promotion. For more information on the NAIA’s Champions of Character program, visit: http://www.championsofcharacter.org.
The Concordia Cardinals compete in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) in the NAIA. CUAA has 14 sponsored athletic teams, which was expanded over the summer with the announcement of an intercollegiate football program that will begin its first regular season in the fall of 2011.
