ANN ARBOR, Mich., January 22, 2010 – Concordia University Ann Arbor (CUAA) is honored to announce the hiring of Nathan Robbins as the first head football coach in CUAA history. Robbins comes to CUAA from Dallas Lutheran School (DLS) in Dallas, Texas, where he planned and instituted the football program start-ups for both the high school and middle school teams in 2003-04. Robbins has served as head football coach, offensive coordinator, and head of speed and strength at DLS since 2003.
Prior to starting up programs at DLS, Robbins served as the defensive coordinator and assistant speed and strength coach at Lutheran West High School in Cleveland, Ohio, from 1999-2002. A graduate from Concordia University Nebraska (CUNE) in Seward, Nebraska, he was a four-year member of the football team and a three-time First Team All-Conference Safety in the Nebraska Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Robbins currently serves as the acting president of the Lutheran Football Coaches Association (LFCA), which is an “organization dedicated to providing opportunities and resources to coaches unified in the mission of developing Christian character and purpose in young men through the game of football.”
The coaching philosophy of Robbins “places the holistic development of young men ahead of all else. This philosophy recognizes the athlete’s potential to take on a leadership role as a Christian man of character well beyond his athletic career at CUAA.”
Ben Limback, director of athletics at CUAA, stated, "Coach Robbins has a tremendous amount of passion for both the ministry at Concordia and college football. As an alum of the Concordia University System, he understands the importance of developing the whole student-athlete. Having already started a football program from scratch, Coach Robbins has a great understanding of what needs to be done and the challenges that lie ahead. I believe his Christian integrity, charisma, and desire to succeed will attract the quality student-athletes needed to build a strong football program. He is a great addition to an already wonderful group of people within this Athletic Department."
A press conference will be forthcoming, during which members of the Concordia community and the media will have an opportunity to learn more about Robbins, his coaching philosophy, and his vision for the football program at CUAA.
