ANN ARBOR, Mich., March 1, 2010 – Ashley Zair graduated from Concordia University Ann Arbor (CUAA) in December 2009 with a major in Psychology and minor in Sociology. During the academic year, Ashley learned that she had been accepted to University of Michigan's Masters in Social Work program. If she pursues graduate education at Michigan, Ashley will receive her master's degree in the two-year program.
A student from West Bloomfield, Michigan, Ashley helped to start the Athletes in Action (AIA) chapter, a sports ministry for college and professional athletes, at CUAA and served as a Resident Assistant in her junior year. Ashley was a four year member of the Varsity Volleyball Team, starting all four years as the team's libero (a back row specialist) and receiving both academic and athletic honors each year. She was a captain her junior and senior years.
Her hope is to work with children in a school, hospital or private practice. She wants to be able to help children that might not have had the ideal living situations, as well as help families find resources to lead to a better life. She would like to work with individuals in a counseling setting.
When asked about her educational experience at CUAA, Ashley said, "I think CUAA helped prepare me for graduate school by constantly challenging me in the classroom. Many of the professors prize critical thinking and that has helped to develop me as a person and will definitely benefit me in the future. CUAA has also helped me to continue in my spiritual growth, and with God by my side I can succeed at anything! With CUAA being a small university it provided a personal setting which gave me even more means to succeed. A degree from Concordia reinforces the fact that I completed my undergraduate studies with integrity. I was able to discover my dream and have means to achieve it. I made lasting friendships and learned important lessons in addition to my education that I will build a career off of."
