Work Study is a federal or state funded form of financial aid based on your financial need. It is a part-time job on Concordia’s campus. The student’s earnings from work are generally retained by the student and used for miscellaneous expenses, such as books or travel. Students who have been awarded a Work Study position should be sure to bring with them the necessary identification forms (generally a Driver’s License or State Issued Picture ID and a copy of your birth certificate or an original Social Security Card, OR a United States Passport). Students turn in time sheets every two weeks and get issued a paycheck (or electronic deposit to a bank account that they designate) every two weeks. More specific information on applying for positions at Concordia can be obtained in the Payroll Office.
Students should remember that any money earned under the Federal Work Study program in one calendar year (Jan – Dec) can be entered on the following year’s FAFSA under Worksheet C, making the amount earned in Federal Work Study exempt from consideration as income in determining your need for aid the next year. This is a benefit of earning Federal Work Study funds as opposed to other types of employment.
